2010 "Remain Close to Jehovah" District Convention-KONA (5A)

Yawn, I am so tired.  Wouldn't you know it?  The night before the District Convention, some irritating people down the street decide to BEGIN their week-end party at midnight.  I'm guessing that they also fed the chickens running around the neighborhood some caffeine-laced corn, because those  roosters started crowing at 1am.  Lovely, just lovely.  Anyways,  yes, we've been assigned a part for Kona's District Convention, today.  Which means a 5:30am departure from Hilo to pick up Jason and Luke in order to make it to Kona for the 8:30am walk-thrus. Happily, our nerves have calmed somewhat, being more comfortable with our part and knowing that this weekend's crowd in Circuit 5A was going to be smaller than last weekend's crowd in Circuit 5B.  The mood lighting and air conditioning helped too, I'm sure.  Took advantage to get some shopping done at CostCo after our part and yes, to stuff our faces with greasy plate lunches at Big-Island Grill and then stuff our faces again with slightly healthier treats from Orange-Tree.  Woo-hoo!   More pics on the way.

2010 "Remain Close to Jehovah" District Convention-HILO (5B)

Whoosh!  Three  great days at this year's district convention have come and gone.  With multiple symposiums consisting of short talks and demos, the program went by rather quickly.  There were 12 baptized, including one from our congregation, a 10 year old, one in a wheelchair and an entire family.  It was a busy week with rehearsals in Honokaa but everything turned out super.  You couldn't even tell that Jason (with his newly trimmed muy mexicano moustache), had never been on an assembly part before.  I was like, oh yeah, come to think of it, he just got baptized last year.  Actually,  all the participants on my parts did wonderfully..thanks for your help Jay, Jonathan, Oly, Steve-o and Judi!  Awesome job!  Couldn't have done it without your hard work and willing spirit.  (And Jehovah's spirit of course!)  K, boys, ready for next week?

Rush Hour Traffic and Coqui Frogs

Flew to Honolulu with my boss and office manager for another training session today.  When local retirees land in Vegas, they run straight for the slot machines.  When our staff lands in Honolulu, we make a bee-line for Big City Diner in Kaimuki.  Nothing beats Grandma's Kim Chee Fried Rice for breakfast, folks.  At 10, we begin a 2 and a half hour training class in air-conditioned comfort in a highrise overlooking AlaMoana Beach. Then a free afternoon.  Ahhh, if only every workday were like this.  Of course, by the end of the day, I have a splitting headache from Honolulu's heat and traffic noise.  Or was it SK's driving? 

Not that Hilo is all that quiet.  It gets really loud here too, but only at night.   Though many despise the little coqui frog, (accidently imported from Puerto-Rico) I really like the nightly symphony....then again, I just may be part Puerto-Rican.   See what you think of the racket heard inside  my orchidhouse this evening (and get a peek at one of the cute little guys causing it!):
