Time At the Office and... a Mystery

I have been (and will continue to be) at work a whole lot more until the end of the month.  This joyful turn of events owes its blessed existence to having to cover for Jimmy the office manager, who is currently out of state, and yes, I am being sarcastic.  I mean let's face it:  I don't stick around whiney, contagious children at the office all day just for the LOLs.    But Jimmy will be standing in for me when I'm gone next month so things sorta even out, I guess. 

In the meantime, can someone tell me what in the world happened here? :

This is how my trunk and rear window looked after work today.  Somehow, while I was inside gnashing my teeth over the growing pile of patient charts on my desk, my car was being covered with these little wispy dust circles... which I didn't notice earlier at lunchtime.  What are they?  The piggy facing out my back window would be the only one who would have seen what happened.  And he's not talking.  

Weekend

Amazingly, I managed NOT to go back and buy stuff at the orchid show over the weekend.  I'd really like to claim that it was pure self-control on my part but truth is, there just wasn't enough time! 

Saturday started out pretty early, with a scheduled return visit at 7 o'clock a.m.   Afterward, I spent a full morning in service with the group, followed by a shepherding call in the afternoon, then Luke's graduation party.  (photos of which are  HERE in case you're interested.)

 
Then came Sunday, which was just plain ugly. In fact, besides enjoying Junior's Public Talk and conducting the WTS at the meeting, I don't even remember what I did afterward. I know the afternoon was dark.  And rainy.  And cold.  And humid. I vaguely recall going to Home Depot and then hearing clothes spinning in our washing machine but the rest is sort of a blur.  Meh.

So you'd maybe think having to trudge back to work yesterday after a cold, orchid-less weekend was a bad thing.   It wasn't.  Things at the office were pleasant during the day, Guicho studied in the evening (despite having been stung in the face by a bee earlier in the day), and the evening field service group capped off the night with dinner at a Thai Restaurant. 

Then today,  as a consolation prize for not purchasing any  pretty, [and pricey] orchids, I let myself be swayed by some pretty, [but cheapo] violets:

So without even having to switch to GEICO, I saved a whole bunch of money this weekend... and still got me a few nice plants today.  Sweet.

59th Annual Hilo Orchid Society Show

Today was another long day in service.  Worked in the rain (and through an earthquake!) with Ralph and Evelyn in the morning, and then spent a sunny and breezy afternoon with my cousin Corinne.   It was all wonderfully field-focused.  But when lunch-time rolled around, my service bag went flying into the back seat and I bolted down to the tennis stadium to check out the local orchid society's annual show and sale.¹

Oh la la...   I shamelessly blocked aisles, teetering precariously on tippy-toes and twisted into odd positions to take photos, and my camera was absolutely overheated by the time I walked out.² Unfortunately, the typical glare of our local tennis stadium meant that many of the plants did not photograph well, but I'm still sure you'll get some idea of what was on display. 

Surprisingly, I walked out with no plants, and I am very proud of my exercise of self control this afternoon. 

Of course, there's always tomorrow.³

2   I wasn't the only one taking photos though.  There were lots.  One man had a very official looking, high-end camera which he manually focused before taking each picture.  I sheepishly followed him around from display to display, fumbling awkwardly at the touch screen on my little point and shoot.  Which is maroon-colored.

Booger-induced appetite supression is not necessarily a bad thing, since I am trying to drop a few pounds before heading far, far away next month.  The scale claims I haven't really gained any weight over the past 6 or 7 months, but then again, despite knowing I should, I haven't really been trying hard to eat healthier either.  I mean, said booger-sighting happened at McDonald's for crying out loud! 

Seemingly contrary to what the scale claims, the face staring back at me in the mirror looks rounder (especially in photos...see below) although that just might be due to the longer hair.  Willy, (the male half of Alohita),  says I look more "muscular".

Gotta love Willy.

Lots of activity here locally.  I've mentioned a few times that our mid-week meetings in Spanish have seen a nice increase in attendance due to numerous studies who come after work.  We have an average of 7 of them who attend every week, although they're not always the same 7.  Here's last nights shot of the group which may or may not display properly, depending on your screen.  (You can always click to embiggenit¹ to the proper dimensions):

We also had a really encouraging local needs part, which was bascially made up of interviews with the four new pioneers in the congregation (Jason, Qiana, Gemmaima and Dena) who just got done with Pioneer School last week.  On top of that, we have two more who will start pioneering this coming September- Luke and Alana.   That brings our total to 18.

Surprisingly,I have no plant-related commentary today. 

But I will tomorrow.
